Marcella C. Poludniak

Marcella was born November 8, 1920, in Pawnee, Illinois to Hazel (Blanchard) and Otto Ostermeier. She married Edward Poludniak on June 14, 1941. Ed passed away on October 20, 1989. Also preceding her in death were her sister, Frieda (husband, Bob) Filson; son, Thomas Poludniak (wife, Susan); and special companion of many years, Paul Stout.

Marcella grew up on a farm six miles northeast of Pawnee, attended a one room grade school, then attended Ball Township High School, graduating in 1939.

After her marriage, Marcella worked at Allis Chalmers during the time Ed was in the service with the US Army during WWII. Before retiring in June of 1988, she had worked for 19 years as a secretary for the Secretary of State, Department of Police in Springfield, Illinois.

Marcella was a member of the Springfield Quilt Guild, being honored as the quilter of the year in 2010. She also belonged to the Tuesday Day Quilters and the Sangamon County Homemakers, Jerome Unit.

She is survived by her son, Donald Poludniak of Springfield; daughter, Diane (husband, Jeff, deceased) Schultz of Bellvue, CO; grandchildren, Karen (husband, John) Gregory, Megan (husband, Greg) Winczewski, Phillip Poludniak, and Kate Poludniak-Young. Marcella also enjoyed her great grandchildren, Haylee and Madison Winczewski, Brycen and Korbin Gregory, and Sofi Young.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:15 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, on what would have been Marcella’s 104th birthday at Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.

Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Camp Butler Cemetery.
