

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Dean, 78, of Springfield, formerly of Chatham, died peacefully surrounded by her family at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Heritage Hospice after a year-long struggle with cancer. Peggy was born June 19, 1939 in Moline, IL the daughter of Donald and Evelyn Baker Trevor. She married Ronald Dean on December 24, 1960. Peggy attended elementary school in Moline and secondary school at Principia High School in St. Louis and Moline High School in Moline. She earned her bachelors degree from Illinois State University. She taught school for 14 years in Rockridge, Dixon, Loves Park, Washington, and Springfield and subsequently worked in sales for several department stores, the last of which was Kohls in Springfield. Peggy was a voracious reader and was renowned for her "smarts" and her ability to do all types of crossword puzzles. She was a Jeopardy fanatic and did not miss watching up until the end. Peggy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and had a special place in her heart for her beloved cat, Snickers, her constant companion. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Beverly Canaday. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Dean of Springfield; children, Lynn (Brian) Kerber of Sherman and Mark (Mary) Dean of Chesterfield, MO; grandchildren, Branson, Presley and Ashla Kerber, and Jack and Audrey Dean; and one great-grandchild, Kari Kerber. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. A private family graveside ceremony will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
