

Margaret E. Meier, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was a lifetime resident of New Berlin, but recently had resided at St. Vincent's Home in Quincy. Margaret Eileen Jokisch, the daughter of Rose C. and Louis Jokisch, was born on August 29, 1917, in Morgan County. She was graduated from Jordanville School and Ashland Community High School and had attended Illinois College and Western Illinois University. She also did additional work from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Missouri. She began her teaching career at Grand Prairie Rural School where she taught for four years, followed by four years at Ashland Grade School. She then was married to Vincent Edward Meier on August 17, 1944, at St. Augustine Church in Ashland. Later she taught for eleven years at Pleasant Plains Grade School. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in New Berlin, the St. Mary's Altar Society, the New Berlin Women's Club, the Tekakwitha Bridge Club, and the Neighbors Together Again Club. She was a volunteer worker in the textile department at the Sangamon County Fair for 28 years. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Vincent in 1985; her parents; two sisters, Anna Rose Jokisch and Lucile Blank; and two brothers, Newell and Lyle Jokisch. Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn (Macklin) Meyer, and Carol (John) Selby both of Quincy; a son, Michael (Marjorie) Meier of New Berlin; a sister, Muriel Baker of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren, Stephen (Christina) Selby, Christopher (Jennifer) Selby, Jennifer (Joseph) Gianfriddo, Jason Meier, Andrew Meyer, and Timothy Meier; and four great-grandchildren, Emma Carolyn, Patrick, Vincent, and William Selby. Family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010 at St. Mary's Church, 404 E. Birch, New Berlin, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Kevin M. Laughery, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family of Margaret E. Meier is being served by McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin, IL.
