Margaret Herring Newman, 97, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Millington, TN, died on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Regency Nursing Care Residence. She was born September 23, 1914, the daughter of E.R. Herring and Beatrice Herring. She married James Newman in May 1936. He preceded her in death in March 2002. Mrs. Newman was a topographic-photogrammetric draftsman employed by the Army Map Service in Little Rock, AR and Washington D.C. She also held a special mapping assignment for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Memphis, TN. In 1957 she joined the Division of Water Resources for the State of Illinois and retired in 1975. She is survived by one niece, Vernetta (husband, Robert) Stewart of Millington, TN; several great-nieces and nephews; and close family friend, Henrietta Knepler of Springfield, IL. Graveside Ceremony: Will be held at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington, TN with burial next to her husband.
