

Lola Simmons, 89, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, February 19, at Capital Care Nursing Home. She was born November 5, 1922 in Stanton, England, the daughter of Douglas and Anne (Smith) Staight. Lola married Ray during WWII on March 20, 1944 in Dursley, England. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage together until he preceded her in death in 2010. Lola was The Activity Director for the Dirksen House Retirement Home, and then later a Clerk for Circuit Breakers and the State of Illinois. She enjoyed knitting different things for her family and friends, she enjoyed traveling especially to England to visit her family, and to Florida for Christmas. She was a very active member of Springfield Seventh Day Adventist Church, especially with the different charitable organizations. She was also a member of The English War Brides. She is survived by her two children; David “Goose” Simmons and Deborah (Gary) Ambuehl both of Springfield, her grandchildren; Amanda, Jessie, Nate, Janine, Cheyenne, Ethan, Jayden, and Desi, her great-grandchildren; Tyler, Dalton, Melonie, and Mariah, and her sister Joan (Staight) Jones. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and 3 brothers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen St. Springfield, IL 62703. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
