Marie A. Faulkner, 88, of Athens, died at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Marie was born July 3, 1925 in Metropolis, IL, the daughter of Oliver Ernest and Eva Elizabeth Maedeker Bess. She married Muriel Faulkner on February 14, 1945 in Osceola, AR; he preceded her in death. Marie graduated from Metropolis High School and worked for Metropolis Oil and Gas. She later was employed as a Site Manager in Athens for Senior Services of Central Illinois. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Stevey Joyce. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (husband, David) Lefferts of Petersburg; son-in-law, Charles Joyce of Springfield; three grandchildren, Hayley Schurman, Kelly Dial, and Robyn Ghelfi; and six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Walker, Anamarie and Griffin Dial, and Logan and Blake Ghelfi. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Funeral Mass: The family will be hosting a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 201 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 711 S. 6th St., Petersburg with Rev. James Palakudy, celebrant.
