

Marie Karpman, 91, of Springfield, passed away at 6:25 a.m., on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Marie (K. Marie Rogers) was born on June 13, 1919, in Kincaid, IL, the daughter of Gail and Lewis Rogers. She married Max Karpman on November 10, 1936, in Springfield. At a young age Marie worked at Springfield Dry Goods. During WWII she worked at a battery factory in Chicago to help with the war effort. Later in life she worked as the bookkeeper for University Pharmacy in Springfield. She was active in Sisterhood at Temple B'rith Sholom, was a life member of Hadassah, and served as secretary for the B'nai B'rith Women. She loved playing bridge and Mahjongg and was an expert at Cross Stitch Embroidery. During the time her husband Max was Springfield's premier furrier, Marie often served as the elegant model around town for the finest furs in Springfield. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Max Karpman, on December 9, 2005; an infant daughter, Janet Sharon Karpman; her parents; and her sister, Marjorie Rogers. Marie is survived by a son, George (Estie) Karpman of Marco Island, FL; a daughter, Helena (Michael) Potash of Sioux City, IA; six grandchildren, Sheri (Michael) Dolan of Springfield, Teri Karpman of Champaign, IL, Keri Sue Karpman of Bloomingdale, IL, Andrew "A.J." (Rachael) Potash of Scottsdale, AZ, Martin (Andrea) Potash of Iowa City, IA, and Casey Potash of Scottsdale, AZ; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew and Alayna Dolan and Max and Vivian Potash; a half brother, Richard Rogers; half sisters, Patty Ball and Mary Rogers; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside ceremonies will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010, at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Rabbi Michael Datz and Rabbi Barry Marks officiating. The family will receive friends following interment at the home of Sheri and Michael Dolan. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions to be made to the Springfield Board of Jewish Education, The Max and Marie Karpman Fund, c/o Temple B'rith Sholom, 1004 S. 4th Street, Springfield, IL 62703, or Memorial Medical Center Foundation - Hospice, 701 N. 1st Street, Springfield, IL 62781.
