Marjorie “Brooks” Miller Steiner was born on April 28, 1926, in High Point, Missouri to Joseph and Margie (Short) Miller. There is no way to explain her, except to say that she was pure kindness and light. From the time we, as her daughters, were young, all our friends wanted her as a second mother, and as we got older, friends wanted her as a grandmother. Her light continued to shine even as her body became increasingly frail. She often said, “God is love and that is really all I need to know”.
Brooks attended Central Business College in Sedalia, MO. She worked for Missouri Baptist Convention, Jefferson City Board of Education, and the State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Brooks married the love of her life, August “Gus” Steiner on June 6, 1948, in Olean, MO.
She joins her husband, August, parents, brother, and countless others across the Jordan. She was prepared mentally and emotionally for this journey and looked forward to being with God.
Brooks loved her family, including her great-grandchildren, Simone, Otis, Ada, Lynx, and Cyan; and grandchildren, David Patt and his wife, Julie Jedlicka, both of Kansas City, and Dan and his wife, Virginie Patt, of Boston. She raised her daughters with nothing but kindness, Carol Sue Breuer and husband, Max, of Portage, Michigan and Leigh Steiner and husband David Decker of Springfield. Brooks is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Spurgeon.
She loved the Lincoln quote “We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs the storm?”. She lived by this belief and assurance.
