

He was born on September 4, 1960, in Springfield, the son of Thomas and Margery Maskey. Mark married Cynthia L. Koebler on August 20, 1983, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield.
Mark earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from Illinois State University. Mark was a visionary retail entrepreneur for thirty-seven years and was best known for starting and successfully operating 2nd Cinema Video stores and later Friar Tuck Beverage liquor stores. He opened the first 2nd Cinema store in 1986 in Springfield and grew that business to fifteen stores in Central Illinois. In 1998, Mark opened the first Friar Tuck in Springfield and expanded that business to nine stores in Central Illinois and metro St. Louis. Mark achieved this success through sheer hard work and determination and through an ability to quickly learn all the aspects of operating and adapting retail businesses in a very competitive industry.
He was a lifelong learner who always had an answer no matter the question. He had particular interests in all things astronomy, science, and nature. Mark also had a well-known love for his dogs Buddy, Moose, Moxie, and Syd.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark is survived by his wife, Cynthia Maskey of Springfield; daughters, Emily (Alex) Reside of Los Angeles, CA and Claire (Sean) Sexton of Springfield; son, Matthew Maskey of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Margot Reside and one grandson on the way; siblings, Kathleen Maskey and Rebecca Maskey, both of Chicago, Thomas (Pam) Maskey of Fairfax, VA, and David (Taffy) Maskey of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
The family will host a Celebration of Life from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Aqua Sports Club, 1 Club Area, Springfield, IL.
