

She was born in Chicago, IL March 5, 1931 the daughter of Walter and Mary (Malnar) Linder. After graduating from Springfield High School in 1949, she married Melvin Kenneth Peake Sr. April 29, 1950. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1993. Her parents and 2 grandsons also preceded her in death.
Early in her career, Marlene worked at a Bobbie Pin Factory, and then served as the Springfield Township Collector for several years. She went on to work at the Secretary of State’s office of the State of Illinois, and then retired in 1995 from Springfield School District 186. She loved classic movies and musicals. She and her family enjoyed traveling, mostly by car. She was proud to tell her stories of the road, as she visited all 48 states by car. She was a member of the Women’s Bowling Association for over 60 years, bowling in various leagues. She was active with AARP. Her greatest joy was her family and her two dogs, Miss Kitty and Bear.
Surviving are her children: Diana (Dennis) Lowe Sr., Melvin K. (Judy) Peake, Jr., Dawn (Steve) Blakeman, Theresa Rosa, Mary (Charles) Horn Sr., Dorothy (Curtis) Champion and Michael W. Peake, all of Springfield. There are 24 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
Visitation: The Peake family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 4-7 pm at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen, Springfield.
Funeral Service: Funeral services for Mrs. Peake will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 12, 2016 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Berg officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
