Martha Webb Havey

Martha Webb Havey, 61, passed away on October 3, 2018 at her home in the presence of her loving family. Martha was born on August 25,1957 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Lee) Buckley Webb. She married her high school sweetheart, Timothy J. Havey on September 29,1979 and they had 39 wonderful years together! They raised two daughters and a son. Her greatest love was her family and precious granddaughters. Martha was a graduate of Lincoln Land Community College and the University of Illinois - Springfield, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1982. She received a Master of Science in Education in 2008 from Western Illinois University. Marthas joy and passion was teaching. She taught in the Springfield Diocese before staying home to raise her own children. After returning to teaching, she worked for Springfield District 186 for 20 years, and was a 2016 Educator of the Year Finalist. She had a particular love of reading that she shared with her classes in her many years as a Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher, and she inspired her students to be lifelong learners and to believe in themselves because she first believed in them. Martha was an active member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church (PSR teacher, Eucharistic Minister, Usher and Cantor), but most recently enjoyed attending the 5:00 p.m. Mass at Christ the King Church. She participated in a Small Group for 13 years, strengthening her faith and supporting others through shared life experiences. Martha was a performer in the Muni Opera for several years, and taught dance, art appreciation, tennis, and Fine Arts camps. She was a Girls on The Run Coach for 8 years, and in retirement became a tutor at St Johns Childrens Hospital in Joeys Classroom. She supported her husbands involvement in Habitat for Humanity, was a member of a vivacious Book Club, and enjoyed many vacations and traveling with her family. She believed that what mattered most were the little things in life, and exemplified a life lived to the fullest! Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Lee Webb, and mother and father-in-law, John and Ann Havey. She is survived by her husband, Timothy J. Havey of Springfield; her daughters, Meredith Volle (husband, Darren and granddaughter, Evangeline) of Springfield, Rachel Misura (husband, Kevin and granddaughter, Clara) of Peoria, and son, Matthew Havey of Springfield; her siblings, Bill Webb and Dave (wife, Ginger) Webb of Springfield, and Michelle Laatsch (husband, Tony) of Syracuse, New York; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Visitation and Celebration of Life: Family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 S. Walnut, Springfield. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Glen VanderKloot officiating. The family requests that you wear polka dots and bright colors to celebrate Marthas zest for life!
