

Marvin Howard Long, 95, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Marvin was born on March 7, 1919. in Fort Madison, IA, the son of the late Winnie and Hazel (Harris) Long. He married Helen Carter and later Pearl M. Reichert, they both preceded him in death.
Marvin was a furniture Manufacturing Rep for Smith Brothers Furniture, he retired in 1984. He was a former member of Elks Lodge Springfield #158, Director of Illinois Central Grasshoppers, International Holy Name Society, St. Agnes Catholic Church Springfield, IL, and St. Agnes couples Bridge and Pinnochle Club.
Survivng Marvin are his half- brothers; Lyle Long of Bettendorf, IA, Lynn Long of Mediapolis, IA, half-sister Winnie M. Mona of Texas, grandchildren Karla McKeag, James Foss, Jr., Rhonda Foss, Todd Foss, Tabitha Gibson, Rodney Foss, Michael Long, Terry Long Jr., Emilie Houk, and Crystal Thompson, 14 great grandchildren, a son-in-law James Foss, Sr. and a daughter in law Wanda Long, Step-daughters Darlyn Maisel, Bonnie Hettenhaysen, and Gloria Blaes, a sister-in-law Georgia Long, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Also preceding Marvin in death was his parents, children Terry Long, and Judith K. Foss, a brother Dale Long, and a grandson Rodney Ray Foss.
A funeral mass celebrated by Rev. Robert Jallas will be Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11 am at St. Agnes Parish, 245 N Amos Ave, Springfield, IL 62702. The family will receive guests from 10 am until the time of mass at the church.
Memorials in Marvin's name may be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Agnes Catholic Church.
