Mary A. Brown Tolan

She was born on January 10, 1931, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Eugene and Alice C. (Kaiser) Brown. Mary married Hugh G. Tolan on September 1, 1951, in Springfield. He preceded her in death, on September 14, 2003.

Mary had a gift of a beautiful singing voice, competing in a few talent competitions in her youth and was requested to sing at several various types of celebrations over the years. She enjoyed playing the piano. Mary was involved in and supportive of both of her children’s activities and even served as a Brownie Girl Scout leader at one time.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty; a brother, Maurice; nieces, Karen and Mary Jo; and a nephew, Gene.

Mary is survived by her children, Marilee (late husband, Robert) Tolan Stone of Springfield and Mark E. Tolan of Springfield; grandchildren, Heather (James McDaniels) Stone and Justin (Kristy) Stone, both of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Alec Stone and Mikey Loureiro; a special nephew, James (Ruth Ann) Aggertt of Florida; and several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

A private Graveside Ceremony will be held at Pleasant Plains Cemetery.

The family will host a Celebration of Life from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, in the Concordia Room at Concordia Village, 4101 W. Iles Ave., Springfield, IL. The nearest entrance is off of Archer Elevator Rd, entering through the assisted living entrance.
