Mary Evelyn Comerford

Mary Evelyn Comerford, 90, Springfield, IL, passed away at 8:15 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at St. John's Hospital. Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating. A private family burial will be held at Green Cemetery in Bluffs, IL. Mary was born on July 17, 1922 in Pittsfield, IL, the daughter of Amy (Iler) and Oren Sanders. She married Richard Comerford on August 29, 1947, who passed away June 15, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her six siblings and son, Thomas Comerford (wife Holly, of Fox River Grove, IL). Survivors include: daughters,: MaryJo Van Stan of Lake Barrington, IL, Kimberly Simmons (Jim) of Huntley, IL, Jamie Comerford-Hickmann (Tim Hickmann) of Springfield, IL, and Kathleen Comerford of Houston, TX; son, William Comerford of Round Rock, TX; seven grandchildren, Jason Van Stan, Robert Latham (Tracie) and Jessica Hembrey, Christopher Hickmann (Devon) and Patrick Hickmann (Kelli), Sean Comerford and Erik Comerford; six great-grandchildren, Mari, Gracie, Macenzie and Chloe Latham, Emma and Charlie Hickmann; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Mary was a telephone operator in Pittsfield, IL until her first child was born and then became a wonderful stay-at-home mom! She was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinal fan who last attended a game at the age of 87 years old. After moving to Auburn she became active in the Auburn Senior Center and a regular at the Auburn Public Library. She moved to Brenden Gardens and discovered her love of crossword puzzles, bingo and new friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Auburn Public Library, 338 W.
