

Mary June "Honey" Council, 82, of Springfield, passed away at 4:12 a.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born June 6, 1931 in Springfield, the daughter of Robert Sullivan and Mary Catherine Markey Bartlett. She married Robert E. Council on December 25, 1951 in Springfield; he preceded her in death on September 6, 2007. Mary was a graduate of Lanphier High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. She was a member of St. Louise De Marillac, Illinois Home Extension, AARP, and Christ the King Altar & Rosary Society. She was employed by State of IL, Department of Public Aide, where she retired in 1991 as an accountant. She also volunteered her time helping prepare tax returns for those in need of assistance. Mary enjoyed travelling, bunco, reading, puzzles, playing cards, bowling, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. She was also an avid Cubs fan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Council; daughter, Carolyn; three brothers, Wilbur, Lawrence and Donald Bartlett; two sisters, Judy Bolton and Helen Patterson. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Council, Catherine (husband, Edward) Kipping, and Cecilia (husband, Bob) Shomidie, all of Springfield; six grandchildren; Heather (husband, Kenny) Dunn, Amanda and Stephanie Shomidie, Cassie, Brittany, and Ryan Kipping; seven siblings, Robert "Bob" (wife, Gloria) Bartlett, James (wife, Nancy) Bartlett, Edward (wife, Karen) Bartlett, Patricia Heine, Donna Bartlett, Alice (husband, Charlie) Paoni, and Nancy Dean all of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday December 19, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield with Rev.
