Mary Sandra Martin, 79, of Springfield, died at 1:11 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at St. John's Hospice. Mary was born April 23, 1935 in Springfield, the daughter of Charles F. and Flora Sehy Martin. Mary graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1953 and was employed as a secretary for various departments for the State of Illinois until her retirement. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, St. Louise de Marillac Guild, Legion of Mary, and State Retirees. Mary loved to travel, especially to Europe and loved Route 66. She was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Maria King Peters. She is survived by siblings, Lila Martin, Charles R. (wife, Mary Rose) Martin, Elizabeth (husband, Merle) Martin King, and Patricia Martin, all of Springfield, and John W. Martin of Eggertsville, NY; two nieces; four nephews; and seven cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
