Mary M. Olsen

She was born in Peoria, IL, August 29, 1941 the daughter of Virgil and Marjorie (Meginnes) Hawkins. Mary married Harold A. Olsen in Springfield at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS April 2, 1961 and he survives.

Also surviving are her two daughters; Nadine (Perry) Kraft of Sherman, IL, and Jeannie (Bill) Henry of Coppell, TX; her seven grandchildren, her sister, Virginia Howard of Egan, MN, six nieces and nephews, five great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Christine Olsen, her father-in-law, Harold M. Olsen, and her brother-in-law Nils Olsen.

Mary worked for Horace Mann early in her career and then became the Administrative Assistant of the Central Illinois District Office of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Springfield. She served the office for over 17 years retiring in 1998.

Mary was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS and served on the Altar Guild. She was a member and served as president of the Ladies Aid at the Church, was an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and was a past Girl Scout Leader. An avid golfer, Mary was a member of the Saturday Night Couples golf League, the Ladies Pasfield Golf League, earning five birdie pins. She was a member of the Optimissus Club of Springfield, loved to garden, read, cook, and music, but most of all, spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Service: The Olsen family will receive friends on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS 220 S. Second St. Springfield, IL from 2:00 pm until time of services there at 4:00 pm. Rev. Paul Hemenway and Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke will officiate.

Graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery near Riverton on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund 220 S. Second St. Springfield, IL 62701.
