

Maureen F. Hoffman, 61, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at her residence. Maureen was born February 24, 1949 in Chicago, the daughter of Francis Thomas and Lorraine Sasak Gillespie. She married Mark F. Hoffman on January 27, 1973 in Champaign at St. John's Chapel, Newman Center. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2010. Maureen graduated from Cahokia High School and later from University of Illinois in 1971 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. Upon graduating, she worked in several laboratories in Champaign before joining her husband's business Bushwacker in Springfield. Maureen then worked for CMS at the State of IL, most recently as a systems programmer before retiring in February of this year. She was very family oriented and a wonderful mother. She was an avid photographer who loved traveling, visiting all 50 states with her husband. She enjoyed spelunking, camping, canoeing, and cross country skiing. Her favorite things were spending time with her family and friends, searching for the best chocolate, shopping, and reading until the wee hours of the morning. She was also preceded in death by her father; and one brother, Robert Gillespie. She is survived by her mother, Lorraine Gillespie of Cahokia; one son, Robert F. Hoffman of Springfield; one daughter, Marjorie A. Hoffman of Columbia, MO; two brothers, Michael (Jane) Gillespie of St. Louis, MO and James Gillespie of Cahokia; one sister Patricia (Phillip) Birdsill of Fenton, MO; one uncle, John (Peggy) Gillespie of St. Louis, MO; four nieces; four nephews; one great-nephew; and many cousins and in-laws. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Family will receive friends following the ceremony until 4:00 p.m. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Memorial Gardens, 2301 E.
