Maureen was born November 28, 1956, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Howard and Dolores (Heffern) Taylor.
Maureen attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and was a 1974 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She earned her associate’s degree from Springfield College and her bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University. Maureen devoted more than 35 years to education as a K–3rd grade teacher, serving the students and families of Little Flower and Wilcox Elementary Schools.
Maureen was a loving, patient, and dedicated woman with a sense of humor. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Agnes Parish. She cherished her dog, Rizzo, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In her free time, Maureen enjoyed walking and staying active, shopping, traveling, golfing, and savored a well-made martini.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Dolores; and in-laws, Julius and Norma Hutmacher.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughter, Melanie Verry; grandchildren, Taylor and Tyler Verry; brothers, Dennis (Sally) Taylor and Timothy (Patricia) Taylor; brothers-in-law, Michael (Barbara), Patrick (Kay), and Robert Hutmacher; sister-in-law, Kathy Hutmacher; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering: The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62703.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, IL 62702, with Fr. Robert Hutmacher, OFM and Fr. Dan Bergbower, officiating.
A private inurnment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
