Max Karpman

Max Karpman, 88, of Springfield, died at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2005 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Max was born on July 9, 1917 in Chicago, the son of Abraham and Molly Schachtman Karpman. He married K. Marie Rogers on November 10, 1936 in Springfield. Max was a furrier for over sixty-five years in Springfield. He owned and operated Max Karpman Furs. He was a WWII and Korean War U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Temple B’rith Sholom, Tyrian Masonic Lodge #333 and High 12. He was also a member of SCORE, Sangamo Club and served on the founding Board of Directors of Peoples National Bank, and the Advisory Council for Small Business. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter: Janet Sharon Karpman; four brothers: Harry, Jack, Irving and Hyman and one sister: Bess Doochin. He is survived by his wife: K. Marie Karpman of Springfield; one son: George (wife, Estie) Karpman of Springfield; one daughter: Helena K. (husband, Michael) Potash of Sioux City, IA, six grandchildren: Sheri (husband, Michael) Dolan of Springfield, Teri Karpman of Champaign, Keri Karpman of Bloomingdale, Andrew “A.J.” (wife, Rachael) Potash of Phoenix, AZ, Martin Potash of Iowa City, IA, and Casey Potash of Scottsdale, AZ; three great grandchildren: Benji, Matthew and Alayna Dolan and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2005 at Temple B’rith Sholom, 1004 S. 4th St. Springfield with Rabbi Michael Datz and Rabbi Barry Marks officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to be made to Springfield Board of Education Jewish Education, Max and Marie Karpman Fund in c/o Temple B’rith Sholom, 1004 S. 4th St. Springfield, IL 62703 or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2001 S.
