

Merry Carol Moss, 70, of Springfield, died at 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at her residence. Merry Carol was born December 25, 1939 in Owaneco, IL the daughter of Edward Cleary and Roberta Lorraine Williams Moss. Merry Carol graduated from Taylorville High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Studies from the University of Illinois, Springfield. She worked for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and retired in 2007. Merry Carol enjoyed reading, flower gardening, traveling abroad, and taking day trips especially to Hannibal, MO and Galena, IL. She was a member of the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois, Illinois State Museum Society, Springfield Junior League, Retired State Employee Association, LLCC Academy for Lifelong Learning, Springfield Ski Club, and a board member of the Springfield Jazz Society. She attended St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William Douglas Moss; and one sister, Shirley Jean Watson. She is survived by her two daughters, Christy Splan Grove (husband, David Grove) of Chicago and Kelly Splan Cole (husband Christian Cole) of Lexington, KY; four grandchildren, Emma and John Grove, and Madeline and Sofia Cole; one sister, Linda Caston of Cincinatti, OH; four nieces; one nephew; and several cousins. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwestern University Ovarian Cancer Research.
