

Michael E. "Mick" Moffett, Sr., 78, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 at his residence. Mick was born September 3, 1937 in Springfield, the son of John and Nita Chalmers Moffett. He married Sylvanne Viele on August 4, 1956 at St. Joseph's Church. Mick was a 1955 graduate of Cathedral Boys High School and attended Springfield College of Illinois. He was employed for 37 years with Illinois Bell Telephone Company. Mick was a loving and devoted family man, a member of the Barbershop Chorus, past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus #4175, and taught PSR at St. James in Riverton. He was dedicated to his children, grandchildren and his loving wife. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Ann Moffett Ingram; one granddaughter, Brittney Nicole Cantrall; two brothers, John Joseph and James Martin Moffett; and two nephews, James Martin Moffett, Jr. and John Michael Moffett. He is survived by his wife, Sylvanne Moffett; one son, Michael E. (Debra) Moffett , Jr.; three daughters, Kathleen (David) Harms, Michele (Ward) Cantrall, Sr., and Kelly (Mark) DeVaney; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Marjorie) Moffett of Clearwater, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:15 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Richard Chiola officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
