Michael R. Flynn

Michael R. Flynn, 61, of Springfield, died at 3:54 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2005 at his home. Michael was born March 17, 1943 in Springfield, the son of John C. and Margaruite Skoda Flynn. He married Arlene A. Morosi on July 29, 1967 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Mr. Flynn was a 1961 graduate from Sacred Heart Griffin High School and a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1961 – 1965, receiving the Good Conduct Award and Medal. Michael retired in 1998 from the Springfield City Fire Department after thirty-one years of service. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was best described by his friends and family as loyal, patriotic and believed in the old American way. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Firefighter’s Union Local #37 and Knights of Columbus Council #4175. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years: Arlene A. Flynn, daughters: Jillane Flynn and Kerri (husband, Andrew) Landgrebe both of Springfield; three grandchildren: Alyssa and Abigail Flynn and Nicholas Landgrebe; sister: Marilyn Flynn of Springfield; brothers: John D. (wife, Nancy) Flynn of Lake St. Louis, MO and Patrick Michael (wife, Lawanda) Flynn of Savannah, GA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. The Springfield Firefighters will provide an honor guard during visitation. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2125 N. 21st. St. Springfield with Very Rev. Thomas Liebler V.F. celebrant. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
