

Michael W. Fowler, Sr., 65, of Springfield, died at 6:19 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at St. John's Hospital. Michael was born October 8, 1949, the son of Lawrence M. and Adeline E. Britz Fowler. He married Suzanne L. David on August 1, 1968 in Springfield. Michael was a dedicated family man who served his family, his church, and his extended family. He served in the United States Navy; he was stationed on the U.S.S. New Jersey during the Vietnam War. He was later re-deployed during a conflict in Lebanon. Michael was employed at the Illinois Department of Transportation in the sign shop. Among the many signs he designed, he designed the Paul Simon road sign. He was a Deacon of Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman where he served as one of the music leaders. He enjoyed playing softball and was a die-hard Cardinals fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin Fowler, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Suzanne Fowler of Springfield; one son, Michael W. (Deanna "Missy") Fowler, Jr. of Athens; one daughter, Michelle S. (Michelle Havenar) Fowler of Springfield; two grandsons, Blake Lawrence and Chance Taylor Fowler of Athens to whom he was pa-Paw; one special daughter, Angela Durham of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Living Faith Baptist Church, 7575 W. Outer Rd., Sherman. There will be an additional visitation from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Living Faith Baptist Church. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Living Faith Baptist Church, with Pastor Adam Cruse officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
