

Michael William Hanselman, 71, of Springfield, passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at his residence. Michael was born on December 5, 1945 in Springfield, the son of Earl Hanselman, Sr. and Margaret Gobble Hanselman. He married Billie Carroll Brown on November 20, 1965 in Springfield. Michael was a 1963 graduate of Griffin High School. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was an Operating Engineer for CWLP for 31 years prior to retirement in 1999. Michael was a member of the American Legion Post 32, International Union Operating Engineers Local #399, and an officer in local #7. He enjoyed travel, fishing, vegetable gardening, tree growing, and he built a cabin with his friends up in MN where he enjoyed spending time. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Zakary; one sister, Peggy Havenar; and two brothers, Jimmy and Earl Hanselman. He is survived by his wife, Billie Hanselman of Springfield; three daughters, Natalie Hanselman of Springfield, Tammy Bortolozzo of Cedar Rapids, IA, Peggy Hanselman of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Natasha, Hannah, Justin, Jakob, Jessika, Emily, Tristin, and Isabella; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Kendra; three siblings, Kay Meneghetti, Janet and Charlie Hanselman, all of Springfield; his best friend of over 65 years, Charles Foley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Memorial Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Doss officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 32, 1200 Sangamon Avenue, Springfield, IL 62702.
