Mildred Marie Powell Galloway, 93, of Springfield, passed away on Friday November 23, 2012 at her residence. She was born to John Robert and Mary Elizabeth Looney Powell on June 13, 1919 in Timbo, Arkansas. She came from a large family of seven brothers and sisters. Mildred was a homemaker, an avid gardener, and was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she dearly loved. She loved all animals especially her small dogs that she had over the years. One of her favorite pastimes was feeding the ducks at a local pond because it reminded her of when she was a young girl growing up on the family farm. Mrs. Galloway enjoyed watching vintage westerns on television especially Gunsmoke’s Marshall Dillon, and she enjoyed traveling and visiting the Ozark Mountains. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest “Bill” Galloway in 1980, and her son Tony Allan Galloway in 2001.
She is survived by eight children: R.C. (companion Marion) Farris, Cathey Witts, Wade Galloway, Alice (Keith) Staats, Dian (Jim) Hale, Dan (Kathy) Galloway, Steve Galloway, Creg (companion Karen) Galloway, her “other children” Sam Pulliam, Shelly Fisher, and Melissa Galloway, 19 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Private family services were held. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League of Springfield (APL). Bisch Funeral Home West is in charge of arrangements.
