Mildred L. Kurz

Mildred L. Kurz, 87, a resident of Springfield since 1963, died at 1:37 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born on February 18, 1920 in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of John X and Mabel Farrand Waters. She married Kenneth R. Kurz in 1943; he preceded her in death on October 18, 2006. Mildred attended NE Missouri State Teacher’s College (now, Truman State) in Kirksville, MO. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Altar Rosary Society. She was employed during WWII as a timekeeper at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed flower gardening, reading novels and baking the best cherry pies. She also loved cardinal birds. Surviving are two sons: Donald Kurz of Jefferson City, MO and Douglas (wife, Sue) Kurz of Springfield; one daughter, Debbie (husband, Dan) Hannemann of Elburn, IL; five grandchildren: Stephanie (husband, Jim) Phillips, Ryan Kurz, Michelle Hannemann, Kathleen Hannemann and Ken Hannemann; one great granddaughter, Calla Phillips and several nieces and nephews. Cremation accorded by Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The family welcomes friends to visit for a Memorial Gathering from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Gathering will begin with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. Concelebrated Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield, with Reverend David Hoefler principal celebrant and Reverend Philip Kraft. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
