Nancy E. Mendenhall

Nancy E. Mendenhall, 79, of Springfield, died at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Nursing Home in Girard. Nancy was born on March 12, 1935 in Rahway, NJ, the daughter of Henry G. and Esther Oberg Armstrong. She married Harland "Albert" Mendenhall on February 14, 1959 in New Jersey; he preceded her in death on February 24, 2011. Nancy was a graduate of Montclair High School in Montclair, NJ in 1953. She was employed with the Illinois Office of Education and then later as a receptionist for SIU School of Medicine. She was a member of Southside Christian Church where she taught Sunday school. Nancy collected anything pertaining to roosters, enjoyed reading, and listening to music. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George and Duane Armstrong; and niece, Kathy Kuntzi. She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Mendenhall of Santa Barbara, CA and Gary (wife, Mineko) Mendenhall of Homestead, FL; daughter, Susan (husband, John) Hall of Springfield; three grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Hall and Anna Mendenhall; siblings, Frank Armstrong, Jack (wife, Josephine) Armstrong, David (wife, Linda) Armstrong, Barbara (husband, Walter) Griffith, and Shirley (husband, Edward) Mahedy; and great- nephews, Nick, Ryan and Brady Kuntzi and their father, Steve Kuntzi. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following visitation. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Graveside Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Daniel Shelton officiating.
