Nicholas V. Baltusevich

Nicholas V. Baltusevich, 82, of Springfield, died at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. John's Hospice. Nicholas was born December 2, 1929 in Smederevo, Yugoslavia, the son of Vsevolod and Maria Scheriau Baltusevich. He married Eileen Hilliard on June 21, 1952 in Springfield at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2006. Nicholas worked as a draftsman for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. During his tenure he served as president of the IL Assn of Highway Engineers, and retired after over thirty-seven years of service. Upon his retirement from State government he acquired his CDL and drove a school bus for District 186. He enjoyed the students, especially the young ones who called him Mr.B. He was a long time member of Church of the Little Flower and was a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church. At Little Flower he was very active in the Men's Club and their fundraising events. Nicholas enjoyed bowling, poker and fishing in his spare time although he didn't have much time to spare for hobbies. He volunteered his time and talents to the International Visitors Commission as an interpreter when European delegations visited Springfield. Also during his retirement he volunteered as a Good Samaritan at St. John's Hospital. He is survived by his four children, Susan Baltusevich of Springfield, Nick (Candice) Baltusevich of Springfield, Linda (Kurt) Hoffman of Deerfield, and Greg Baltusevich of Springfield; five grandchildren, Sara, Blake, and Cody Baltusevich, and Nolan and Evan Hoffman; sister, Tanya (Carl) Kimble of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
