Norma J. Martin, 85, of Springfield, passed away at 4:09 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. Norma was born August 31, 1925 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth DeLear Freitik. She married Robert Bostwick in 1949 and they later divorced. She later married E. Verne Martin on March 31, 1978 in Las Vegas, NV. Norma graduated from Peoria Manual High School. She worked for 20 years for Sweeney Oil in Peoria and worked as an executive secretary for Fiat Allis until her retirement in 1985. Norma was an avid dog lover, loved flowers, especially African Violets and also enjoyed doing cross stitch. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Loretta Binns. She is survived by her husband, E. Verne Martin of Springfield; brother, Edward (wife, Eileen) Freitik; two nieces, Jerrie (husband, Al) Giese of Sandwich, IL and Nancy Moore of Hanna City, IL and seven great-nephews Funeral Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Swan Lake Memory Gardens Chapel, 4601 War Memorial Dr., Peoria, with Pastor Sandy Polhemus officiating. Entombment will immediately follow.
