

He was born in Carlinville, March 30, 1933 the son of George and Nettie (Dietz) Harms. He graduated from Carlinville High School, Class of 1951. His parents, a brother, Gilbert Harms and a sister, Daisy Cuttingham preceded him in death.
Norman went on to serve in the United States Army 1953-1955. He earned the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal. Norman returned to the family farm in the Carlinville area where he worked for several years. He then worked for the City of Carlinville till his retirement. He and his wife Thelma moved to Springfield in 2002. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springfield.
Norman married Thelma Barth August 30, 1958 in Alton, IL and she survives.
He is also survived by his 2 daughters; Janette (husband Jim) Franz of Chatham, IL, and Beverly (husband David) Bruce of Springfield, his son, Kevin (wife Julie) Harms of Bella Vista, AR, his sister, Minette Enrici of Staunton, IL., 6 grandchildren; Cari Franz, Christopher Bruce, Ashley Harms, Joshua Harms, Jack Bruce and David Bruce Jr.
Cremation rites accorded by the Bisch Crematory.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where a memorial visitation will be from 9:00 am Wednesday February 20, 2013 until time of a memorial service at 9:30 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Michael Paulson will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those that wish may direct memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
