

Norman was born on September 30, 1926 in Springfield, the son of S. Benjamin and Vera Wievel Helm. He married Jessie Sorkach on February 14, 1953 in Springfield.
He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He graduated from Cathedral Boys School and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He served as President of Alvin S. Keys Insurance Agency since 1966. He was a former board member of Visiting Nurses Association, past president of Springfield Safety Council, board member of Old State Capital Foundation, former board member of Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois and member of Insurance Adjusters Association. He was also a member of Island Bay Yacht Club and Sangamo Club, former board member of Brinkerhoff Home and board member of Oak Ridge Cemetery. He was selected “Boss of the Year” by the Springfield Insurance Women. He was a family oriented gentleman and enjoyed gardening and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Granville Helm and one sister, Mary Catherine Helm.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie Helm of Springfield; one son: Todd Norman Helm of Springfield; one daughter: Lindsey Helm (husband, Tim) Fishburn of Springfield, three grandchildren: Macy Helm, Morgan and Taylor Fishburn; one brother: James Helm of Arlington, TX and several nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2006 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
