

Norman Charles Streder, 89, of Springfield, died at 1:47 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. John's Hospice. Norman was born January 7, 1920 in Springfield, the son of William N. and Silvia (Englebretsen) Streder. He married Frances Gorsek in 1940 in Missouri. She preceded him in death in 1992. Norman was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII in the First Battalion Squadron. He was a guard at the Nuremburg Trials during his service. Norman worked at One-Day Cleaners as a presser and a co-owner. He retired after sixty-five years of service. Norman was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, Bingo and above all just enjoyed life. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Kane; brother, William "Bud" Streder; and son-in-law, Bill Walcher. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Walcher of Bowling Green, KY; three grandchildren, Shaun Walcher of Springfield, Willie Walcher of Bowling Green, KY and Zachary Walcher of Nashville, IL; a sister, Kathrine Ray of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 9:30 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church, 722 S. 12th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass will follow visitation at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Peter C. Harman celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
