

Norvin “Norv” E. Elmore, 88, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Norv was born on December 8, 1926, in Chatham, the son of the late Silas and Irene (Robinson) Elmore. Norv married Phyllis “Pat” Mae Hollembeak on April 11, 1948. They shared nearly 61 years of marriage together until she preceded him in death on February 8, 2009. Norv was also preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.
Norv proudly served our country at the end of World War II and in the Korean Conflict. He served in the Army, National Guard, and Navy. Upon completing his service to our country Norv worked as a United States Postal Service letter carrier for many years until he retired. Norv was a life member of the Springfield Ski & Boat Club, the Elks Club, and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, and woodworking in his basement. Norv was an avid Cubs fan, although his favorite events to watch were his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sports and activities. Norv and Pat after retiring, were snowbirds spending the nice months in Springfield, then enjoyed taking their motorhome to Arizona and Texas for the winters. Norv and Pat were former members of Douglas United Methodist Church, and Westside Christian Church.
Norv is survived by his daughters; Jodi Larson and Julia Harbauer both of Springfield, his grandchildren: Eric (Mychelle) Harbauer of Chatham, Alinda (Mark) Hale of Springfield, Aimee (Chris) Allbritton of Springfield, his great-grandchildren: Seth Hale, Tye Hale, Micalister Stash, Mason Hale, Caidin Stash, Makena Harbauer, and Greydon Harbauer, step-grandchildren Andrew Allbritton, Carolyn Allbritton, and Connor Hutchison; his brother Bill Elmore of Atlanta, GA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen St. Springfield, IL, 62703. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday, March 22, 2015, from 4-5 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m. Burial will be on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the United States Navy.
Those who wish to may leave memorials in Norv’s name to Alzheimer’s Association.
