

Pat was born on November 20, 1929, in Springfield, the daughter of Nick and Lillian (Simpson) Haag. She was joined in marriage to Duane E. Slater on October 27, 1951, in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Pat graduated from Springfield High School and earned degrees in education and business from Monmouth College in 1951. For many years, she was the secretary and treasurer of Garretson Lumber/Truss-Slater in Virden, IL.
She shared her friendship, leadership skills, and love of reading as a deacon and sanctuary docent at First Presbyterian Church, and a member of PEO EQ, Sunnyside, and Alpha Zi Delta. Since her college days, she enjoyed a good game of bridge.
Throughout her life, Pat cherished spending time with her family, all of whom enjoyed many of her delicious and traditional meals. Pat’s great sense of humor has been passed on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With many friends, Pat and her husband, Slate, enjoyed traveling, dancing, and sailing together.
Patricia is survived by her son, Doug Slater (Cathy) of Springfield; daughter, Susan Slater, Ph.D. (Phil Armour) of Faribault, MN; grandchildren, Benjamin Slater (April) of Denver, CO, Christopher Slater, M.D. (Meagan) of Lafayette, CO, and Gwyneth Armour of Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren, Blake and Reese Slater of Denver, CO, and Luke and Graham Slater of Lafayette, CO; and two nephews, Steve Bateman (Sue) of Dubuque, IA, and David Bateman (Cindy) of Lake Winnebago, MO.
Pat leaves behind her best friend from birth, Marilyn Kyes, with whom she has shared a long life lived well.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Family and friends will meet for a Memorial Gathering and Ceremony at Pat’s much-loved First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. 7th St., Springfield. The gathering to remember and celebrate Pat’s life will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023. This will be followed by a Memorial Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Susan Phillips officiating.

The family is grateful for the care and kindness of Springfield Memorial Hospital 2nd floor staff, Carriage Crossing staff and residents, Visiting Angels caregiver, Jennifer, and private caregiver, Lisa.
