

He was born August 14, 1939 in Springfield, the son of Eric H. and Gladys Hart Schmidt. He married Joan Bishop and she preceded him in death in 1989. He was also preceded in death by 2 daughters; Anna Marie Zink and Catherine J. Zink-Hagstrom, and a granddaughter, Nicola Bishop.
Paul served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Paul was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the Carpenters Local #16 in Springfield. He was a foreman with the State of Illinois Secretary of State.
He was a member of the Northside Fire Protection District serving as trustee for many years. He served over 32 years as a Republican Precinct Committeeman. He was an excellent cook and loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his children; Mike (Gina) Bishop, Steven (Carolyn) Zink, both of Springfield, Paula Sue Ferrier of Sherman, Paulie H. Schmidt Jr., and Christian H. Schmidt both of Springfield, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Eric (JoAnne) Schmidt and Phillip Schmidt both of Springfield, and a son-in-law, John Hagstrom of Spaulding, There are several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen where visitation will be Friday November 4, 2011 from 3:30 -6:30 PM. Cremation rites will be accorded following with private inurnment at a later date in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a charity of choice.
