Penny C. Shiffer VanderDrift

Penny C. Shiffer VanderDrift, 63, of Springfield, died at 4:36 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at her residence. Penny was born on August 11, 1942 in Springfield, the daughter of Charles Andrew and Ethel Renfrow Shiffer. She married Thomas J. VanderDrift in August 1993; he preceded her in death on March 22, 1997. She was a member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church and a self employed child care provider. Penny enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren as well as shopping, going out to eat with family and friends, and watching Lifetime and movies. Penny was the only person to participate in the American Cancer Walk this year in a wheelchair which exemplified her courage and dedication to the cause. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one son: James DeSoto of Springfield; two daughters: Michelle (husband, Scott) Hollis of Pleasant Plains and Andrea (husband, Angelo) Zaffiri of Springfield; two step-sons: Tom (wife, Beth) VanderDrift of Springfield, Peter VanderDrift of Peoria; two step daughters: Mary Frances (husband, Mark) Carvill of Carbondale, Debbie (husband, Chris) Asay of WY; five grandchildren: Schyler, Sydney and Shayla Hollis, Jadyn and Gionna Zaffiri; three sisters: Judith (husband, Bruce) Brown-Lowman, Sandra Gaffigan, Andrea (husband, Robert) Frantz all of Springfield; five brothers: Charles “Chuck” Andrew Shiffer Jr. of Springfield, John (wife, Mary Kay) Shiffer of Bloomington, Robert Shiffer of Springfield, Mike (wife, Carrie) Shiffer of Springfield, Kevin Shiffer of Springfield, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Keppler, officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
