

Aloyusis Elmer Pete Langheim, 95, of Chatham, formerly of Virden and Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully, November 12, 2017, at Hospice at Heritage. Pete was the beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He was born November 1, 1922, in Watson, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Henry Matthew and Elizabeth Rose Sommers Langheim. Pete was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years Mary Catherine (Norris) Langheim and wife of 44 years, Deanna Gale (Edwards) Langheim; daughter, Barbara Pierson-Compton; son, David; brothers Lawrence, Harold, Ernest, Paul, and Francis. Pete served in the United States Coast Guard for 4 years, farmed for many years; he was a certified waste-water specialist and oversaw the water plants in Girard, Taylorville, Mechanicsburg and Edinburg. He was a member of the Chatham American Legion and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Mary Ann (Richard-deceased) Cadigan of Chatham, Beth (Greg) DeFevers of Palmyra, Connie Jo (Paul) Avallone of Portland, OR, Rosemarie (Rolin) Carr of Springfield; son, James Langheim of Monticello; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brothers, Bernard (Pat) Langheim of Roanoke, VA, Arnold Langheim, Norman (Peggy) Langheim and Fr. Albert Langheim all of Virden; many nieces, nephews and cousins. His family will greet friends from 8:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, November 15, at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 700 East Spruce Street, Chatham, IL, 62629, with Fr. John Nolan officiating. Burial will be at Virden Cemetery.
