

Phil Ludwig, 70, of Springfield died on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at his home. Phil was born August 23, 1935 in Lincoln, the son of Charles Joseph and Marguerite Rose Power Ludwig. Mr. Ludwig graduated from St. Joseph Grade School, Cathedral Boys High School and St. Louis College of Pharmacy and was a career pharmacist. He was employed at Memorial Medical Center Pharmacy, VONO Pharmacy and Abe Lincoln Pharmacy. Phil was a patient and loving father who also enjoyed horses, beer and bad jokes. He was a member of the Springfield Catholic Diocese. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1958 - November 1960 and was a member of VFW Post 10302, American Legion Post 32, American Pharmacies Association, Illinois State Stockhorse Association, Illinois Council of Health System Pharmacists and AARP. He is survived by two daughters: Abigail (companion, Deborah Leyba) of Burbank, CA and Rachel (husband, Odie) Hills-Stoneking of Springfield; one son: Chad M. Ludwig of Springfield; one grandson: Jonathan Hills; two sisters: Mary Ann Hunt and Margaret Ludwig both of Springfield; one brother: Hubert (wife, Sharon) Ludwig of Longmont, CO and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, IL with Reverend James Schroeder, S.C.J. celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Central Illinois; 610 N. 7th St., Springfield, IL 62702-5329.
