
Lt. Col. Philip D. Quintenz, 49, of Petersburg, died at 2:46 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2003 in the emergency room at Baptist Hospital in Amarillo, TX from an Aortic Dissection. Phil was born March 22, 1954 in Decatur the son of Lucian and Norma Lallow Quintenz. He married Trish Reeves November 29, 1986 in Decatur. Mr. Quintenz graduated from Stephen Decatur High School with the Class of 1972. He married Catherine Shane in 1975. He was a graduate of Purdue University where he received a bachelor’s degree. He was commissioned as an officer of the Marine Corps in 1981. He was a graduate of Air Force Squadron Officers’ School in 1990, Air Command and Staff College in 1996 and Air War College in 2001. He was appointed in the Illinois Air National Guard in 1988 as a Captain and Aircraft Maintenance Officer in 183rd Fighter Wing. He became Commander 183rd Logistic Squadron from 1998 to 2000. He was Commander of 183rd Mission Support Group from 2000 until his death. During his career in the Marine Corps and Air National Guard he received numerous medals and citations including Meritorious Service Medal with 1 device, Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 devices, Navy Achievement Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with 1 device, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was a member of the North American Falconers' Association; he was a Docent Volunteer at the Henson Robinson Zoo and for the Illinois Raptor Center Rehabilitation Facility. He was also of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife: Trish Quintenz of Petersburg, son: Sean P. Quintenz of Chicago; daughter: Sarah M. Quintenz of Chicago; sisters: Diane M. (Husband, Jon) Grubb of Decatur, Beth A. Quintenz of San Diego, CA; mother: Norma Quintenz of Decatur; brothers: Michael A. Quintenz of Decatur, James P. Quintenz of Henderson, KY, Todd A. Quintenz and Joseph T. Morea of San Diego, CA and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2003. The 183rd National Guard Fighter Squadron will be posting guard. Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rick Wenneborg and Fr. Chris Brey officiating. The 183rd National Guard Fighter Squadron will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Illinois Raptor Center Animal Rehab Facility, (formerly Wildlife CPR), 5695 West Hill Road, Decatur, IL 62522. The family of Philip D.
