

R. Howard Foley, 67, formerly of Springfield, passed away at 7:27 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Howard was born February 28, 1950 in San Fernando, CA, the son of William H. and Ada E. Jackson Foley. Howard graduated from Springfield High School, and then proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Howard would serve from 1967 until his retirement in 1992. He would then go on to work for the State of Illinois as a computer analyst, and retire. Howard loved life, and was the best friend to many. He was a master scuba diver, and also enjoyed astronomy, photography, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, riding his Harley, and traveling the world. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia A. Collins; and brothers, William H. Foley, Jr., Troy E. Foley, and Patrick Foley. He is survived by his sons, John and Joseph Foley; granddaughter, Emma Jo Foley; brothers, Charles (Loretta) Foley of Palmyra, Clifford (Linda) Foley and John (Selena) Foley both of Springfield; sisters, Mary Harshman of Corpus Christi, TX, Tonya LaMom of VA, and Iva Disbrow of Auburn; nephew, Dustin Foley; nieces, Autumn and Dusty Foley; great niece, Savannah Foley; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery following the ceremony, where military honors will be provided.
