

Ralph P. “Red” Camp, 98, of Springfield, passed away on August 29, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born on March 24, 1919 in Astoria, Illinois to Rolla and Mae Siders Camp. Red married Mary E. Robertson on March 29, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri and she preceded him in death on June 1, 1996.
Mr. Camp is survived by three sons: Gary Lee (Joetta) Camp of Virginia Beach, VA., David C. (Jeane) Camp of Springfield, Alan (Jeanne) Camp of Downers Grove, and Karen Marie Camp of Springfield, one sister Betty Burger of Lincoln, six grandchildren: Melissa Martinez of Jacksonville, FL., Scott Camp of Virginia Beach, Garrett Camp of Springfield, Alexa Camp of St. Louis, Rachel Blakely of Chicago and Emilie Camp of Downers Grove and two great-grandchildren: Merrick and Phoenix Gilstrap. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Red met his beloved wife Mary at a traveling roller skating rink where he was working. He worked for Hummer Manufacturing and then Watt Brothers Pharmacy for over fifty years. Ralph was an avid bowler and he won the Super Seniors Division of the Round The Town Tournament in 2009 at the age of 90. He helped build houses and was an original member of the Springfield Prop Club helping build the current clubhouse in the late 1960’s. Red also enjoyed crossword puzzles.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday September 2, 2017 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday at Bisch and Son.
