

He was born on March 8, 1951, in Springfield, IL, the son of Dale and Shirley (McKinzie) Garst.
Rich graduated from Southeast High School in 1969. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Rich went on to work as a book binder with Frye Williamson Press for 42 years. He was a member of the VFW on Stockyard Road, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 534, and the Elks Club. Rich enjoyed socializing, his bowling league, gardening tomatoes, yard work (he had the best yard on the block), riding motorcycles, antiques, and spending time with his girls and his grandchildren. He was a caring man and a hard worker, always ready to lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dale Garst.
Rich is survived by his daughters, Jaime (Frank) Nash of Bloomington and Randi (fiancé, Chris Redman) Garst of Springfield; bonus daughters, Sarah (Jim) Ghiglieri and Lauren (Ryan) Rumler, both of Washington, IL; grandchildren, Seyarra (Alexa), Kaedynn (Hailey), Anna, Grace, Sam, Jack, and Ashyr; great-granddaughter, Raelynn; sisters, Linda (Jim) Stoppelwerth of Riverton and Connie (Bob) Bringle of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, IL.
