

Richard A. "Dick" Bean, 79, of Springfield, died at 12:40 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008 at St. John's Hospice. Richard was born on August 17, 1928 in Springfield, the son of Charles R. and Grace Marie Chandler Bean. Dick was a member of Knights of Columbus Hall #364 for over 50 years, an American Legion #0032 member, and a parishioner of the Catholic faith. Dick graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1948 and went on to work for Western Electric for more than 30 years. He served his country in the Air Force from 1948 to 1952. In his leisure time, Dick loved to play golf and cards, especially rummy. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan and will be remembered for his quiet, dry sense of humor. Preceding Dick in death were his parents, Charles and Grace Bean and his sister, Helen Eherenman. Dick is survived by his son, Richard A. Bean Jr. of Springfield; his grandson, Richard A. Bean III of Springfield; his brothers, Charles L. (wife, Jeanette) Bean and James R. (wife, Evelyn) Bean of Springfield; his sister, Mary Grace (husband, Dr. John) Graham of Decatur; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St, Springfield, IL 62703. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
