

Richard “Dick” Tony Blankenship, 66, of Springfield, died at 4:04 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2006 at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville. Dick was born on July 29, 1939 in Quincy, the son of Kenneth Floyd and Ruth Edwards Blankenship. He married Margaret Ann Robb in August, 1963 in Murphysboro. He was in the Army National Guard and employed by the State of Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Dick loved his dogs and enjoyed gardening, and planting flowers. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and had a campsite in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Blankenship. He is survived by his wife: Margaret “Peg” Blankenship of Springfield; his step-mother: Mae Blankenship of Springfield; one son: Greg Blankenship of Springfield; one daughter: Kara (husband, Aaron) Walz of Champaign; one brother: Mike (wife, Laura) Blankenship of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters: Trish (husband, Dave) O’Shea of Springfield; Kathy (husband, Randy) Herr of Springfield and Mary (husband, Don) Chance of Springfield; and four grandchildren. Cremation accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald J. Meehling officiating. Burial will be held at Bethel Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Illinois, 3000 Kelly Lane, Springfield, IL 62707.
