

Richard was born on March 5, 1937, in DuQuoin, IL, the son of Eugene and Lillian (Harris) McAllister.
He graduated from DuQuoin High School. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force. Richard went on to work for the State of Illinois. He retired from Central Management Services in 1991 where he had worked as a warehouse foreman. Richard was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.) #4361 in Riverton and the F.O.E. #1425 in Taylorville, for a total of 47 years. He enjoyed traveling, spending time and joking around with family and friends, and attending auctions and flea markets.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his companion of 31 years, Linda L. VanDorn of Springfield; three daughters, Jill (Kevin) Chamberlain of Chandler, AZ, Cindy Brooks of New Berlin and Susan McAllister of Springfield; a son, Richard Patrick McAllister of San Tan Valley, AZ; two step-sons, Edgar L. (Kristie) VanDorn of Edinburg and Kenneth J. (Amy) VanDorn of New Berlin; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Spann of New Berlin, Jeromy McAllister of Springfield, Deanna VanDorn of Chicago, Jarrett (Kelsey) VanDorn and Lynlee VanDorn, both of Edinburg, Kenneth T. VanDorn of Council Bluffs, IA, Kyle J. VanDorn of New Berlin, and Clayton and Kyle Chamberlain of Chandler, AZ; three sisters, Genie (George) Zappanti of Mesa, AZ, Gayl L. (Sam) Oritz of Denver, CO and Mitzi Jo (Wayne) Abel of Rock Falls, AR; a brother, Lester Mitchell of Iowa; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
