

He was born March 30, 1923 in Henry County IA, the son of Elven N. and Nellie M. (Neff) Palm.
His education consisted of attending his first eight years in a one-room school, four years of high school, graduating from Winfield High School in 1941. Coach went on to serve in the Unites States Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theatre with the Amphibs. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Gunners Mate Third Class. He returned to Iowa, graduating from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1950 and later earned a master’s degree from Iowa State University.
Coach began his teaching career as a history teacher and was a baseball, basketball and football coach for several high schools in Iowa. He moved to Tucson, AZ in 1960 to continue teaching history and coached primarily football for several years. Upon his retirement, Coach continued as a volunteer coach up into his mid-eighties.
He is survived by his brother, Blaine (wife Margaret) Palm of Springfield, as well as nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Concordia Village on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at 11:00 am Chaplain Chris Nilges will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10:30 am until time of services at 11:00 am at Concordia Village. A graveside service with military honors will be in the Swedesburg, Cemetery, Swedesburg, IA. Wednesday, Nov. 9th at 12 Noon.
