Robert "Bob" Wendell Steffan

Robert “Bob” Wendell Steffan, 82, of Springfield, died at 9:05 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2007 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Bob was born April 23, 1924 in Springfield, the son of George Otto and Gertrude Rodrick Steffan. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII where he received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and a Good Conduct Ribbon. He graduated from Springfield Junior College (SCI), received his bachelor’s degree in the pre-medical program from Washington University in St. Louis and received his Master’s degree in Psychology from Bradley University. Bob went on to work as Production Manager of WICS from 1952 – 1972. In 1973, he joined the staff of the Illinois State Museum as Scientific and Technical Assistant. Bob was very active in the Springfield arts and theatrical community. He was a member of the Springfield Art Association, Illinois State Museum Society, Midwest Museums Conference and the Sangamo Club. He was past board member of the Springfield Theatre Guild, and was active on the Muni Opera Board. He was preceded in death by his sister: Gertrude Hunley. He is survived by his brother: Melvin (wife, Clare-Marie) Steffan of Springfield; three cousins: Shirley Rodrick Lanphier of Springfield, Joan Rodrick (husband, Irwin) Muncy of Naples, FL and Stewart Holth (wife, Jackie) Rodrick of Pickens, SC; and two nieces: Susan (husband, Almon, Jr. “Al”) Manson of Springfield and Marilyn (husband, John) Tebrugge of Plano, IL. Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. David Hoefler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
