Robert E. Council

Robert E. “Bob” Council, 83, of Springfield, died on Thursday, September 6, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob was born on April 23, 1924 in Athens, the son of Leslie J. and Sarah R. Flagg Council who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Caroline Council and sister, Leona Estill. He married Mary June Bartlett on December 25, 1951 in Springfield. Surviving is his wife of fifty-six years, Mary June “Honey” Council of Springfield; three daughters: Cynthia Council, Catherine (husband, Edward) Kipping and Cecilia (husband, Bob) Shomidie all of Springfield; six grandchildren: Heather Council (fiance’, Kenny Dunn), Amanda Shomidie, Stephanie Shomidie, Cassie Kipping, Brittany Kipping and Ryan Kipping; one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a graduate of Middletown High School in Middletown, IL. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 364. He was employed as a carpenter for Memorial Medical Center for fifteen years, retiring in 1987. He also had been employed as a dish maker at Stetson China Company in Lincoln for nineteen years and as a carpenter at Myers Industries in Lincoln for nine years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching the Cubs and playing golf, cards and bingo. The family welcomes friends to visit from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with prayers at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2007 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry, Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery.
