

Robert Herbert Klemm, 85, of Springfield, IL, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Heritage Health in Springfield. Born in Chicago on February 21, 1927, he was the son of the late Herbert and Ellen Eden Klem. On July 26, 1968, he married Clara Ruth Sommer. Mr. Klemm was preceded in death by his step father Edwin Pearson; brother William and sister-in-law Betty Klem. Mr. Klemm is survived by Clara, his wife of 44 years; son Bill (Barbara) Klemm of Chatham; daughter Linda Kerker of Geneseo; step daughters Marilyn (Niles) Brierton of Mt. Sterling and Sherry Cantrill of Greenville; step son Kim (Debbie) Gibson of Sherman; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, with one due in November; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Klemm served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He attended the University of Louisville and later went on to the FBI Academy. Mr. Klemm received his certificate of Police Administration at Northwestern University. He was an Illinois State Trooper for 35 years and became the Deputy Superintendent of the Illinois State Police. He was an Assistant Warden who later became the Deputy Director of the Department of Corrections for five years. Visitation: Sunday, October 28, from 4-7PM at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Services: Monday, October 29, at 9AM, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, with Rev.
